Our division gathered at Wesley and Darlene Brown's home in Smithfield Sunday 7/18. It was a wonderful opportunity and setting for Peter Stephenson to hold his last Division Council Meeting as our LtGov. Our Regional Trustee, "Doc" Thrush, gave a verbal presentation about the Kiwanis Capital District's budget and how it is supported by club and member dues. Doc also shared about what transpired at the Kiwanis International Convention recently. Over 300 poles, down riggers, and bags of bait were prepared for Tuesday's annual Kiwanis Div 21 Fishing Clinic. We had a very nice cookout with plenty to eat and drink. It was great to work and socialize with our fellow Kiwanians from other clubs in Div 21.
Our Community Service Chair, Rick Gonzales, arranged for the club to be responsible for a Serve the City Chesapeake project. Most of the projects were addressed during a week in June. On July 14, Berkley, Linda, Lankford, Rick and Fred with Judy gathered to clean a yard in the South Norfolk area of our city. 20 bags of waste were collected. We left a gallon of weedkiller for the homeowner to follow-up in a few weeks. Arrangements were made through Mr. Mel Howell with Heart of Compassion.
